EXPERIENCE the power of therapist, client & music ~ TOGETHER.
Music therapy can help across a lifetime of needs. Research demonstrates that music can reduce anxiety and depression, increase feelings of belonging, and help us process our emotions. Music therapy can help with other goals, too. A child with disabilities can benefit from music therapy to learn social skills, focus, self-regulation, and academic skills. A teenager with unwanted behaviors can benefit from learning self-awareness, empathy, and coping skills. An adult with traumatic brain injury can re-learn activities of daily living and communication skills. An older adult can benefit from socialization, memory care, and grief support. The best outcome? A joyful connection with a music therapist that fosters growth and improves a person's quality of life, and the lives of those who love them.
You don't need to have any music experience to benefit! A Board-Certified Music Therapist is trained and licensed according to the standards of the American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapists to use music to help others. You could find yourself playing a drum or learning guitar, singing or listening along to a favorite song, writing new lyrics to a familiar song, or even making your own music from scratch! We make sound, we move to sound, and we use it to learn with our minds and bodies to develop new ideas and skills together, and reinforce what's working well in our lives.
Music therapy is adaptable in all settings from hospitals, to schools, to in-home care. A music therapist will come to you as an in-home service provider, work as a related-service provider through a school district, or contract through a health-care organization to meet your needs. When you identify that music therapy is right for you, Firesong Music Therapy will find a way to make services happen!
Individual therapy sessions are tailored to your specific needs and can include goals related to a variety of growth areas including emotional and social needs, self-expression, communication goals, developmental needs, motor-skills and coordination, and more! An initial session can help determine how you can benefit, and will introduce you and your loved one to the experience so you can determine if music therapy is right for you.
Group therapy sessions provide an added layer of enthusiasm and social-emotional learning for people of all ages and abilities! All people are musical... each with our own level of music experience. Playful music making in groups empowers people with the opportunity to relax into an atmosphere of joy and learning, and can promote a sense of belonging and community. Group therapy can be tailored for people in any situation, from children with developmental needs, to people in recovery, to the bereaved, and anyone with a desire to find hope and grown using music as a tool!
Music experiences can promote team building, team bonding, and can unite people in rhythm and focus. Research demonstrates that group music making promotes both individual outcomes such as self-esteem and awareness, as well as group feelings of belonging and interconnectedness. When tailored to your specific needs, Firesong Music Therapy can provide an in-service experience that fosters group cooperation and promotes insights to help connect, problem solve, and find joy and hope together!
